LOVE.HOPE.HEAL These three words represent the work we've been doing at Children's Bureau of New Orleans since 1892. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for children and families in Greater New Orleans through proven, trauma-informed, healing-centered approaches that enhance mental health and wellness, primarily for those from historically marginalized communities.

As CBNO celebrates 134 years in the community, we've provided services ranging from child advocacy, to adoption and foster care, to peer education, to individualized mental health counseling. Today, CBNO is a center of mental health excellence, providing specialized, evidence-based mental health interventions to youth and families impacted by trauma, violence, and loss.

New Orleans children and youth experience traumatic events at rates that far surpass youth in the rest of the country. One local study reports our children are suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) at rates 4 times higher than children around the country. Another local study reports that 3 in 10 children in New Orleans have witnessed domestic violence; 4 in 10 have witnessed someone shot, stabbed or beaten; and 5 in 10 have had someone close to them murdered.

Every day, our clinicians sit across from young people who are carrying more than children ever should: kids grieving the sudden loss of a friend, teenagers navigating the aftermath of violence, families trying to rebuild stability after traumatic events. We meet over 1,500 clients where they already are, by embedding our clinicians across:

Schools: We embed weekly grief and trauma therapy services in 16 schools.

Crisis: We have served over 150 individuals in crisis this year.

Opportunity Youth: We support over 200 young adults via 6 workforce development partnerships.

A donation to the Children's Bureau of New Orleans ensures that children, youth and families in the Greater New Orleans Area will continue to receive mental health care when they need it most -- at no cost to the families we serve.

Mission
