Children's Bureau of New Orleans

About this Organization

This year, Children's Bureau of New Orleans is celebrating 132 years of providing services from advocacy to adoption to mental health counseling to children and families in the Greater New Orleans area. As the needs of the community have changed, Children's Bureau has adapted its services to address the areas of greatest need.

Today, we offer community-based, evidence-informed counseling to young people and families impacted by trauma, violence, or loss. Your donation today provides important resources to cover the expense of delivering mental health care to the children and youth in the city who need it most. It allows us to continue offering these important services without any cost to families.

New Orleans children and youth experience traumatic events at rates that far surpass youth in the rest of the country. One local study reports our children are suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) at rates 4 times higher than children around the country. Another local study reports that 3 in 10 children in New Orleans have witnessed domestic violence; 4 in 10 have witnessed someone shot, stabbed or beaten; and 5 in 10 have had someone close to them murdered.
