Friends and Family,

If you know me, I can almost guarantee you have heard about my job. I work as a clinician at Children’s Bureau of New Orleans (CBNO) because I believe deeply in helping the children who need it most in our community.

To that end, I have been working in schools and responding to crises for the last two years in this job. My clients have gone through things most will not experience in a lifetime. Over half of the children we serve have experienced physical abuse, sexual violence, or loss of a close relative to homicide. CBNO provides specialized mental healthcare to children and families at schools and in times of crisis.

I see the impact of this work firsthand and how it can truly change lives. They are resilient, looking for a safe place to land in their often chaotic worlds. Children’s Bureau has become that safe place for many. 

I think one of my clients said it best: "I have never been one to like counseling or therapy, but I’ve liked therapy here...I would tell other kids to do therapy. It is so worth it. I feel like a new person. I feel happier now. A lot has been lifted...With each step I took during counseling, I realized I’ve grown stronger than I ever have been before. Not only stronger on the inside, but stronger on the outside as well. A huge thank you to this program for getting me out of a dark hole."

I do this work for my clients, for their families, and for New Orleans, in the hopes of creating a brighter future for all three. We provide services to families completely free of charge, but CBNO can’t continue to do this invaluable work without the support of the Greater New Orleans Area. On GiveNOLA Day (May 6) or earlier (the giving window opens on April 28!), I’m asking you to join me in supporting the place where I pour my heart and energy every day.
