For 130+ years, CBNO has been a cornerstone of care for children and families, offering prevention, advocacy, education, and intervention services that strengthen mental health and wellness across the New Orleans community.
During my time working in re-entry I saw firsthand how deeply incarceration intersects with trauma, mental health, and adverse childhood experiences, and how much of that harm could be prevented with basic necessities like a good education, stable housing, accessible healthcare, mental health support, and safe neighborhoods.
That’s why I love working at Children's Bureau New Orleans. By providing trauma-informed therapy and support at no cost, they help children and families begin to heal and imagine brighter futures. The need is alarming – more than half of New Orleans public school students have lost someone close to them to violence, and children here experience PTSD at nearly four times the national rate. These realities are heartbreaking and infuriating, but they also remind me why this work matters so much. Help me carry the mission of CBNO forward by donating this GiveNOLA Day!
