Berre's Children's Bureau Fundraiser

April marks my ninth year working for Children's Bureau of New Orleans (CBNO) and nine years of raising money through Give NOLA. This is a unique year in that we have seen an unprecedented decrease in public investment in lots of different social services, especially mental healthcare. City, State, and Federal funding has dropped precipitously or gone away altogether. Louisiana continues to rank among the lowest in terms of Medicaid reimbursement rates for mental healthcare. The picture is bleak! So why keep showing up and why keep-on keeping-on for nine years? The bottom line is I love this work and I love the team of folks that I get to do this work with--both at CBNO and our partners across the city and state. As most people know, asking for $ is not my favorite part of the job, but I will do it year after year because I believe in our mission of making quality care accessible to the children, youth, and families who need it most. I also believe that the amazing work of our clients and the clinicians and community mental health workers who support them are worth investing in. Our team has responded to almost a dozen community crisis events this school year and has delivered treatment to almost 400 individuals through more than 20 community partnerships.
