Helping bring birds, pollinators, and wildlife back to our city through native planting

A lot of wildlife used to be part of everyday life in New Orleans—but much of that habitat has disappeared.

Across the city, native plants have been replaced by concrete or non-native landscaping. That means fewer places for birds, pollinators, and other local species to find food and shelter.

I started The Yaupon Project to help bring that habitat back—by planting native trees and plants in overlooked spaces like sidewalk strips and school grounds.

These small spaces can make a real difference. Native plants support Gulf Coast birds, butterflies, and pollinators, while also cooling streets, absorbing water, and making neighborhoods more livable for people too.

If you’re interested in helping bring more life back into New Orleans, I’d really appreciate your support. Every donation helps us plant more habitat where it’s needed most.
