In New Orleans, giving season is upon us - GiveNOLA Day is May 5th!  Support The Inner Pup's work, by donating to us through GiveNOLA this year! This incredible 24-hour online giving event, hosted by the Greater New Orleans Foundation, brings our community together to support local nonprofits making a real impact. What makes GiveNOLA so special is that every donation is amplified through bonus “lagniappe” funds and prizes—meaning your gift goes even further.

The Inner Pup is working to expand access to care and transform lives, and your support today helps us reach more people and pets who need it most.

If you didn’t know, I joined the board of The Inner Pup (TIP) eight years ago, and I believe deeply in its mission because I grew up in a community like the ones TIP serves. Back then, resources were limited. At just five years old, I had to say goodbye to our first family dog—the first meaningful relationship I had—because we didn’t have access to the support we needed.

That experience showed me firsthand how traumatic it can be for a child to lose a pet, and how love alone isn’t always enough—we need access to care and resources like those TIP provides.

I’ve had the honor of meeting our clients while volunteering at wellness clinics and working as a dog trainer through our training program. One thing I can say with confidence is that their love for their pets is undeniable. For many, TIP was their last resort—and because of these services, they’re not only able to keep their pets, but give them the healthy, happy lives they deserve.

And, what's great about givenola? Every dollar counts, and together, the more we raise, we have a chance of raising even more.....  reach out with questions or if you'd like to get more involved in this mission that's close to my heart.....

More About The Inner Pup

We provide low-cost services for the low-income or struggling pet owners in New Orleans and the area. All pet owners that need the services are welcome, we are not parish-specific. We support both dog and cat parents. We keep pets in homes, we work on prevention - we try to keep animals from going to the shelter in the first place.
Since 2016 we have run pop-up heartworm prevention clinics for dogs and their owners - this includes a heartworm test, 6-12 months of prevention, flea/tick prevention and treatment options if the dog is positive. That's our flagship program -- to date, we've hosted roughly 150 clinics. We see anywhere from 60-300 dogs and they operate with a team of 35 volunteers.
We run a veterinary assistance grant for both dogs and cats, where people fill out an app and we send them to a vet partner for anything non-routine and non-emergency - there is a $20 co-pay for this, that's it. We see a lot of minor surgeries, itchy skin, infections, etc.
We have a low-cost dog training grant where people write in and we connect them to a trainer  -- they only pay 10% of the trainers fee.
Our two extended programs right now are 1. extremely low cost services for Hollygrove residents in particular, and 2., we are the host of a One Touch Heartworm Treatment Study with leading researchers, working to change the gold standard for Treatment -- they are presenting our findings in three years time. I'm happy to get into more details on this, in conversation.
We go above and beyond to help our clients -- we work to be on the streets, in the community, with pet owners. We help people with access to care -- for example - we have case managers if people need help filling out applications, we work on transports, for example, if someone doesn't have a car to get to the vet.
We have worked with thousands of families to date and last year alone we saw 1800 pets with 2400 visits throughout all our services. We are a small but mighty team, we love what we do, and we love to talk about it.
