When I first signed up to be a Mentor with Generation Hope, I thought I understood what I was stepping into. I knew I’d be supporting a student parent working toward a degree. I knew there would be check-ins, conversations, and encouragement along the way.
What I didn’t fully understand was the level of determination I would witness.
My Scholar balances more in a single day than most people do in a week. Classes, work, parenting, and everything in between. There have been moments when something small, like a childcare issue or a car repair, could have easily derailed everything. And yet, she keeps showing up.
What stands out to me is that she doesn’t do it alone. Generation Hope is there in the moments that matter most. When something unexpected comes up, they step in with real support. Not just advice, but tangible help like emergency funding, mentorship, and a community that understands.
As a Mentor, I’ve seen firsthand how much that matters. I’ve seen the relief when a burden is lifted, and the confidence that grows when someone knows they’re supported.
That’s why I support Generation Hope.
Because this work is not abstract to me. It’s personal. It’s about making sure that one unexpected moment doesn’t undo years of effort. It’s about investing in a parent who is building a better future not just for themselves, but for their child.
Supporting Generation Hope means supporting resilience, possibility, and real change right here in New Orleans.
And I’ve seen what happens when that support shows up at the right time.
