My goal is to raise more awareness for The Inner Pup Organization. Yes, I'd love more donations, but I know that once someone knows all we do here, at some point, they are compelled to give. So, instead, I want more people to simply. know.
I want you and your friends to know that The Inner Pup is a local non-profit organization, launched in 2014. We originally wanted to be a program of a larger organization, but we never found the right one to merge with.
So, my mother and I started driving the neighborhoods with an old truck, Bootsy. She was my dream truck - a 1990's Bronco that we painted with our logo and Paw Prints.
From there, we started monthly Heartworm Prevention Clinics. We'd pre-load sheep drench into syringes as our preventative, and we were charging $1/month. We were excited to see 25 people attend our clinics, 40 dogs was outstanding.
We grew, and grew, and gained recognition.

Today -- The Inner Pup offers programs that serve low-income pets owners, with low-cost services. We are not parish-specific but we work out of Orleans.
We have Heartworm Prevention Clinics that administer Heartworm Tests, give out 6-12 months of both heartworm and flea/tick prevention, and if a dog comes up positive, we enroll them in a low-cost Heartworm Treatment option. We also educate around Heartworm Disease (dogs die from it constantly and pet owners just don't know).
We have dog training vouchers and if someone needs to get their pet to a vet, we can help with our phenomenal Veterinary Assistance Program. We have quarterly cat clinics for routine care and check-ups. Sometimes we offer vaccines. And, we act as a major resource for people who have questions on where to turn, we often support owners in the best decisions for themselves and their pets.
Our two special initiatives are 1) Inundating the Hollygrove Neighborhood with extra services under a Petsmart Charities 4 year grant. And our, 2) One Touch Treatment Study. This study is led by top Heartworm researchers in Florida and Canada, and hosted locally by The Inner Pup and our One Touch Director, Dr. Hannah Hegwood. This study is a 3 year study where we are testing our treatment protocol, to prove it works. As long it's proved, the researchers will be presenting the findings to the American Heartworm Symposium, in hopes to change the gold standard for treatment and make treatment more accessible to all pet owners. Huge thanks to Maddie's fund for this grant.
