Dragon Café is a ministry of food and fellowship. The Dragon Café was started after Hurricane Katrina as a ministry of food and fellowship serving disaster relief workers and volunteers. Presently, the Café serves the homeless and working poor, as well as persons suffering from mental illness and substance abuse. On average, we serve about 75 to 100 meals between 8:30 and 9:30 am every Sunday morning. Dragon Café has not missed serving a meal since its inception after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Our volunteers have walked though flooded streets and ignored police curfews in order to serve our guest every Sunday morning. Hurricanes Gustav, Isaac, Barry, Tropical Storm Lee, Ida, Francine and a recent snow storm did not prevent us from serving every Sunday morning. Lou Gehrig had played 2,130 consecutive games and Dragon Café has served over 767 meals since Katrina. We will break his record.

Dragon Café MISSION: We seek to nourish the minds, bodies and spirits of those who are hungry, homeless and in need. VISION: Our vision is a New Orleans without hunger, homelessness and hardship. VALUES: We strive to follow the words of Christ by serving those who are in need. We treat everyone with dignity and respect. We provide our guests with the opportunity to build friendships and become a part of our St. George's family. We believe breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
We are consistent, reliable and have never missed a Sunday breakfast. Neither hurricanes nor Covid have ever prevented us from serving on Sunday morning. We pride ourselves on being a program that is led and funded by volunteers. We aim to collaborate with other organizations in our community who are committed to our vision.
WHAT WE DO: Every Sunday at 8:30am, our dedicated volunteers serve a hot, delicious breakfast to an average of 75+ individuals who might otherwise start their day without a filling meal. We offer our guests a place to eat in the company of others and a warm smile to brighten their day.
