Cat’s Claw Corp is a New Orleans–based collective rooted in mutual aid, radical inclusivity, and community self-determination. Originally founded as an infoshop featuring a lending library, zine workshop, media lab, and organizing hub, the organization has evolved into a fiscal sponsor and support hub for grassroots projects working to meet immediate needs while building long-term community power.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Cat’s Claw helped launch and fiscally sponsor a community food pantry, raising over $60,000 and distributing food across New Orleans at the height of the crisis. That work has continued for over five years, providing consistent food access and support in the St. Roch neighborhood.
Today, Cat’s Claw serves as a fiscal sponsor for multiple community-led initiatives, including a neighborhood-based garden development project transforming vacant lots into spaces for food production and collective care, and Trans Queer Youth New Orleans, an open, youth-organized space for LGBTQIA+ and questioning young people (ages 12–24) to gather, connect, and build community.
Mission
At its core, Cat’s Claw exists to create safer, non-hierarchical spaces where people can organize, learn, and support one another. The collective is committed to confronting systemic issues including gentrification, wage exploitation, patriarchy, white supremacy, and environmental injustice through direct action, mutual aid, and community-building.
