Musaica Chamber Ensemble

To promote and foster chamber music performance; to encourage the composition of new music; and to increase the awareness and appreciation of chamber music.
Musaica presents a variety of eclectic and entertaining chamber music to audiences throughout the New Orleans metropolitan area. Its concert series presents more familiar and accessible works alongside those which are new or less often performed.

Now completing its 12th season, Musaica has performed dozens of concerts in New Orleans as well as in Jefferson, Lafourche, and St. Tammany Parishes. The chamber ensemble has played twelve world premieres and continues to introduce audiences to great chamber works from many different periods. In addition, Musaica has been nominated by Gambit's "Tribute to the Classical Arts" at least ten times for "Best Chamber Chamber Music Concert" or "Best Performance of New Classical Music."

As part of our effort to encourage the composition of new music, each year Musaica asks college students from the Southeastern region of Louisiana to submit recent chamber works to be considered for our annual chamber music workshop.

Information is at http://musaica.org/Composition_Workshop.html

Members of Musaica and a committee of local professional composers look at the scores submitted and select the winner, who will be announced at our final performances of the season. The winning student will receive the opportunity to write a new work for Musaica. During the course of the following season, the musicians from Musaica who are playing the piece will workshop it with the student and edit it as necessary to prepare it for a final performance.
