Vieux Carre Property Owners, Residents, and Associates

VCPORA is a non-profit, member-supported organization whose mission for over seventy-five years has been to preserve the Vieux Carré (French Quarter) as a national treasure, to maintain its quaint and distinctive character and to achieve in that historic, living neighborhood a quality of life which can be enjoyed by residents, fellow citizens, businesses, and visitors.

Though extensive civic engagement, Vieux Carré Property Owners, Residents, and Associates strives to protect and preserve the residential nature of the French Quarter. We work with other organizations, non-profits, and all levels of government to advocate for the unique nature of this precious neighborhood.

Some of the issues we work on:
• Air rights
• Short-term rentals
• Changes to the Zoning Ordinance and Master Plan
• Quality of life issues
• Traffic, parking, and transportation issues

Our advocacy on these and countless other matters is based on relentless diligence that often goes unnoticed.  Every day, VCPORA monitors the 4,000 buildings in the Vieux Carré for renovation, demolition by neglect, rezoning, change of use or other alterations.  Every month, we attend meetings of the City Council, NOPD, Vieux Carré Commission, Board of Zoning Adjustments, City Planning Commission, Historic District Landmarks Commission, Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, and French Quarter Management District.   Every week we field dozens of calls from residents about quality of life issues ranging from trash pick-up to graffiti to crime to missing street lights, broken sidewalks, utility issues - even shoddy mail service. Because all of this matters, the big stuff and the small.

Preservation of this neighborhood didn't happen by accident or chance. It is the result of generations of dedicated big-picture thinkers who have campaigned tirelessly for this neighborhood. Our job is to protect and defend it, because once its authenticity as a diverse neighborhood is lost, it can't be recreated. We've got more to do now than ever, and we cannot do it without you and your support!
