Crystal's Promise of Justice Fundraiser!

I began working at Promise of Justice Initiative in November 2025. Much of my adult life, I have been a prison abolitionist and working with our clients, attorneys, volunteers, organizers, storytellers, and partner organizations I have learned that our criminal legal systems in Louisiana are cruel, racist, dehumanizing, and destroying communities all in the name of "tough on crime" politics and public "safety". 

I've learned that:

• Louisiana locks up more people than any other state in the US. 

If putting people in jail and prison made us safe, Louisiana would be the safest place around!

• Louisiana will spend $1.3 billion on jails, courts, and prisons in 2026-2027. 

Imagine what would happen if Louisiana invested $1.3 billion in our communities with funds going towards education, healthcare, childcare, employment, and infrastructure. Imagine that!

• Louisiana has no plan to change. 

That is why I ask that you support the Promise of Justice Initiative for GiveNOLA Day

PJI has helped secure freedom for hundreds of people, decrease state executions, reduce prison abuse and neglect, increase constitutional protections for everyone in Louisiana, and educate and agitate lawmakers and the public in the United States and abroad as we advance a vision for a better world.
