I’m a board member of The Yaupon Project, which plants native trees and green spaces in cities like New Orleans.
Not every neighborhood has the same access to shade. In many communities, there are fewer trees—leading to hotter streets, higher energy costs, and fewer comfortable outdoor spaces.
Shade makes a real difference. Tree-lined streets can be 10–20 degrees cooler, reduce flooding by helping soil absorb water, and create healthier environments for both people and wildlife.
The Yaupon Project focuses on planting in places that have been overlooked—like sidewalk strips and school areas—helping bring shade, cooling, and life back block by block.
If you’re able to support, any donation helps get more trees in the ground where they’re needed most.
