LizE's Fundraiser for One Book One New Orleans

6 years ago I had the honor of joining the board of One Book One New Orleans. Did you know that 26% of adults in our city are considered to have low literacy? That means the joy you and I experience by reading a book is a struggle that seems out of reach for a quarter of our neighbors.  One Book One New Orleans attempts to change that stat by selecting one book each year and encouraging everyone in our city to read it. Reading the same book allows a shared experience and provides a basis to build dialogue, community and helps increase literacy rates in New Orleans. One Book supplies the books and curriculum to adult education programs, our local library branches, jails and prisons and high school/GED programs, as well as hosting events throughout our city celebrating our annual selection and bringing readers of all levels together to discuss the selection. Help us buy the books, host our events and in general support our community as we all read, share and join together in making New Orleans a more literate city, one book at a time!
