Every year on July 18, Ilé Aña Olofí marks Foundation Day: a moment to pause, take stock, and bring our community together around the work. Foundation Day is not a public event. It is a restricted-access gathering of scholar-practitioners, a space for serious conversation about the preservation, ethics, and future of Afro-Atlantic sacred traditions.
Foundation Day 2026 centers on the presentation of "Havana to the Sabine," a paper examining the documentary history of Lucumí communities in the Gulf South. Two to three invited scholar-practitioners will join as respondents.
The year's scholarly offering is the Iroko Framework v1.2.0, formally deposited with Zenodo and permanently archived as a citeable academic contribution.
Gifts made in honor of Foundation Day support the programming and coordination that make this annual gathering sustainable, and signal that there is a community of donors who believe practitioner-led scholarship deserves a permanent home.
