✨💀 Greetings, friends! 💀✨
Those who know me know I've always had an arguably morbid fascination with death. Over time this has morphed into a deep care for the dying, and for the grief (both internal and external) that surrounds them. Wake is a nonprofit dear to my heart for the difficult work it does to educate and assist those who are experiencing this universal end-of-life process.
Every single one of us, if we live long enough, is likely to experience being a caregiver, needing a caregiver, or both. The need for companionship and emotional connection does not diminish as we age, and the necessity for physical assistance only increases over our lifespan. We also need people to lay us to rest and to remember us after we’re gone.
The money we raise on GiveNOLA Day will help us pilot the Community of Care program - a circle of social connection between unrelated people in the community who come together to learn and practice mutual aid in order to foster trust bonds meant to endure through the lifespan.
Your donation will support the creation of a program that will engage 50 trained volunteers to support 30 older adults through ongoing, repeated points of contact. Volunteers will assist with simple activities of daily living, provide social connection, and facilitate structured conversations about life goals, caregiving preferences, and end-of-life planning.
I will be forever grateful that my family was able to provide this direct love and care to my grandmother on her deathbed last year. I hope with your donations we can give such care to the people in my community who also need of that kind of support.
Thank you with love ♥
