The Wellness Collective powered by Ballerina's of the Bayou

The Wellness Collective, powered by Ballerinas of the Bayou, is a New Orleans-based nonprofit born from a dual crisis: the long shadow of Hurricane Katrina and the stark inequities laid bare during COVID-19. Though officially established in 2022, our roots run deeper planted in the aftermath of Katrina, when our founder first witnessed the lack of accessible arts and wellness spaces for youth in her own neighborhood. That vision gained clarity during the pandemic, as our community faced compounding trauma, isolation, and disinvestment. In response, we began activating small pop-up programs blending creative expression with healing practices offering youth and families a safe space to reconnect, process, and rebuild.

What began as an emergency response evolved into a movement. Today, our creative campus in Algiers which we refer affectionately to as our oyster, rich in cultural history yet long overlooked houses a recording studio and multi-use rooms supporting dance, theater, music, entrepreneurship, and wellness. We provide after-school intensives, artist residencies, cultural showcases, and community-led wellness initiatives.

Serving over 700 residents annually, we help youth move from invisibility to intentional celebration. Whether vending at a community market, performing onstage, or leading workshops, they shine creatively and economically. At The Wellness Collective, we believe radical joy is resistance and access is the foundation for healing and growth.
