About this Organization
For over 800 years, Dominicans have answered the call to serve. In 2013, the Dominican Sisters saw a need in Gert Town-an area still struggling after Hurricane Katrina-and took action.
Today, The Peace Center is a lifeline for children, adults, and seniors, offering education, job support, and community programs that create real change.
For Our Youth
-After-School Program with homework help, play therapy, and enrichment
-Summer Camp scholarships to explore new interests and a Peace Center Summer Camp with cultural enrichment, safe play, and healthy meals
-Educational field trips that inspire and expand horizons
For Adults
-Free computer access for job applications and resume building
-Computer skills classes to boost confidence and opportunities
-Career counseling and job placement support
-Spiritual counseling for guidance and encouragement
For Seniors
-Field trips, bingo, social events, and gatherings to keep them engaged and connected
-Nutritious meals at events and to take home
-Health and educational programming to support overall well-being
Thanks to generous gifts from people like you, we serve nearly 2,500 neighbors in Gert Town each year.
