Each year, thousands of women and men return from jails and prisons only to join the ranks of America’s largest populations of homeless and unemployed community members. They are usually faced with 2 choices: Continue doing what they have always done and go back to jail or die being misunderstood. That must change. Receiving support to address short‐term needs such as housing, employment, and food reduces the rate of recidivism by 83%. The LOHM serves women and girls directly impacted by the criminal legal system along with their families and communities to which they return. We have grown so much and are now able to offer some of our services to men. By providing support services and connections, we have been able to maintain a 100% recidivism rate.

Programs

Housing

• The Ladies of Hope Ministries Housing Dept is home to our Hope House and Rapid Rehousing (RRH) Program. The LOHM operates four HUD-funded Rapid Re-housing projects, which are located in New York City, Prince George’s County, MD (DC metro-area), Miami, Florida and New Orleans. These programs are incorporated into each jurisdiction’s Continuum of Care for the Homeless and subject to the policies and procedures of each jurisdiction, as well as HUD regulations and oversight. Each program is obligated to provide case management and rental assistance to a minimum of 15 households annually; accept Miami which is only obligated to 5.The goal of each program is to facilitate housing stability and sustainability for individuals experiencing homelessness due to domestic violence, incarceration, and various factors as determined by HUD's homeless standards. The job of our case managers are to provide swift access to healing, opportunities, progression, and empowerment as we deal with their immediate need for housing and other support services such as income generation, employment support, mental and physical health, etc.

Pathways 4 Equity

• The Pathways 4 Equity (P4E) Program is designed to prepare justice-impacted women for the modern workforce and advocate for fair-chance employment. We do this by offering the program in two tracks: The program goals are twofold: First, to prepare women for career opportunities by providing training to upskill for today’s industries, and establishing career pathways with employers that offer family-supporting wages and growth-focused opportunities. Second, to advance equity through business partnerships that support the expansion of hiring policies and diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.

• The program goals are twofold: First, to prepare women for career opportunities by providing training to upskill for today’s industries, and establishing career pathways with employers that offer family-supporting wages and growth-focused opportunities. Second, to advance equity through business partnerships that support the expansion of hiring policies and diversity, equity, and inclusion practices. These services have now been extended to reach those within the prison through our trained facilitators in English and Spanish. 
• We are now accepting applications to our Pathways 4 Equity career fellowship program to provide connections to second chance career opportunities. 

Hope Healing Hub/FOWI

• In early August 2021, a cohort of fabulous women graduated from the Face of Women Imprisoned (FOWI) speakers bureau, a critical humanizing project that offers insight into individual lived experiences and provides women directly affected by incarceration with a platform and entrepreneurial pathway to tell their stories and support themselves.  It has since had over 200 women come through and be impacted by the service which has now formed into our Hope Healing Hub Model that is based off of our Hope Scale. Health Program

• In July 2021, we launched REPRO+Justice to change health outcomes and restore dignity to women who are impacted. This initiative includes our new Doula training program to train women to become doulas, providing opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship, and setting the stage to impact maternal health.  
• The LOHM has partnered with 2 prisons in New York to create Hydroponic gardens for those justice impacted to learn how to create their own food and vegetables. We hope to expand this program to other states.

The LOHM is currently completing plans to scale our programs within Baltimore, Atlanta, Newark, Chicago, Philadelphia, Denver and Detroit. The LOHM currently operates in Miami, Louisiana, New York, PGC County, and soon Detroit.
