Commemorative Air Force Big Easy Wing

A nonprofit organization

The Commemorative Air Force mission is TO EDUCATE future American on the importance of aviation, INSPIRE future generations on the spirit in which these great planes were constructed and flown in the defense of our nation, and HONOR the men and women who flew and serviced these aircraft. The CAF Big Easy Wing program is to educate its members, community as well as educate youths on the dynamics of aviation, its history and the spirit of teamwork involved in keeping the CAF mission alive.

Youth Education is a Commemorative Air Force focus and is our wing's priority for 2022. Through your donation, our wing will enlist students into our youths' educational program. Your donation of a 25 dollars or more will enable us to involve young people in aviation experiences. Over, the past 4 years, we have made great stride in developing community connections with local schools and youth agencies. This year we plan on building upon that relationship. Last year, we were able to discuss aviation facts to EAA Young Eagle teenagers at the Stennis Airshow. We hosted visits from students from Christian Brothers and the Andrew J. Higgins Squadron of the United States Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC). These visits provided an opportunity for us to share the history of our WW2 Stearman, the N'Awlins Lady. One of our You Tube videos ( that you will be able to find on our website and on facebook) shows an outstanding teacher from Christian Brothers and a youth educator from Junior Achievement flying in our Stearman. Their story along with our wing leader was to promote our aviation educational program and the Big Easy Wing.

This year our emphasis is on implementing our educational program. Online resources provide description of math, science, technology, and engineering materials that would be useful for our program. We need the materials. We are seeking your donations to assist with purchasing materials and covering the cost of the student attendance fee. If your specialty aligns with STEM education or Aviation, we would love to have you join our wing to assist in the education program. Your donation will help foster a youth's STEM education and social development program. Over the past 4 years, the impact from raised funds focused on upgrades for our 1943 NS2 Stearman. This year our focus is on youth educational growth.

By viewing our posted pictures and videos, you can see that we have HONORED WW2 veterans with flight, supported our community during desperate Covid times by providing a "Blessing Fight." During this flight, the Archbishop of New Orleans and a Rabbi Community Leader flew over the city of New Orleans blessing its people. Other photos show students meeting veterans and becoming acquainted with Commemorative Air Force Big Easy Wing. Now is time to engage youth in the science and technology required to maintain WW2 aircraft along with the history and the dynamics of flight. The skills and camaraderie that the student will learn in our program will transfer to their future endeavors.

Testimonials

I am honored to be involved with such an outstanding group of volunteers. I never thought that after retirement that my life would be so impacted by so many good and hard working people. Not only has my circle of friends increased but I am inspired to try and learn new skills. Never once did I think that I would want to take flying lessons but here I am challenging myself. Thanks Big Easy Wing! Donald Allen
