Louis Satchmo Armstrong Jazz Camp
About this Organization
The NOACHC offers a comprehensive, all-day music education program for students over three weeks at the Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong Summer Jazz Camp, hosted at a local university. This venue allows participants to glimpse college life, helping them envision higher education as an attainable goal at an early age.
NOACHC celebrates over 25 years of hosting the Armstrong Camp in delivering quality music education to young people from the greater New Orleans area and neighboring parishes. The NOACHC understands that quality arts education for young people is fundamental in fostering an appreciation for artistic expression; it instills discipline and encourages the pursuit of excellence. Through the Louis Armstrong Jazz Camp, the committee addresses the lack of arts education in schools by providing expert instruction from jazz greats to young music students who might otherwise not have access to programs of this caliber. Eighty-five percent of the camp's student body receives full or partial scholarships and comes from economically challenged households. NOACHC sends musician-educators to five local schools to collaborate with teachers and students through the Armstrong Music Academy
