Queer Northshore
About this Organization
We started Queer Northshore in 2022 in hopes of building an LGBTQ+ community in a part of Louisiana where there wasn't one. Since its creation, Queer Northshore has hosted over 175 events, recruited over two dozen LGBTQ+ people to join community boards and committees, created the first LGBTQ+ krewe to parade on the Northshore, produced the Queer Louisiana podcast, and introduced the first PRIDE parade to the Northshore, with over 600 participants. Our ongoing monthly events include meetups, peer support group, book club, and Drag Bingo. All of these events are produced at no cost to attendees. We also produce quarterly and seasonal events such as hiking trips, Friendsgiving, dance parties drag shows, and the annual Pride Northshore Parade and Celebration. On average, our monthly meetups have 60 people in attendance. Our larger season events have anywhere from 150 - 3,000 people in attendance.
Queer Northshore envisions a future where all LGBTQ+ individuals in the Northshore area are accepted, represented, and connected with each other and the greater community. Our values are Acceptance, Diversity, Inclusion, Community, Equality, and Equity.
