New Orleans does not preserve itself.

Every historic home, neighborhood block, cemetery wall, corner store, shotgun house, Creole cottage and cultural landmark that gives this city its character depends on people choosing to protect it.

That is the work of the Preservation Resource Center.

For more than 50 years, PRC has helped preserve New Orleans’ historic architecture, neighborhoods and cultural identity through education, advocacy, restoration, homeowner support and hands-on preservation work.

PRC restores.
Since 1974, PRC has renovated more than 1,500 buildings, helping bring historic properties back into commerce, culture and community life. In 2024, PRC completed the restoration of the 1820s Perseverance Hall in Tremé, returning one of the city’s most important historic buildings to public use.

PRC revitalizes.
PRC provides classes, resources and technical guidance for homeowners caring for historic buildings, from first-time buyers to longtime residents maintaining family properties. Through home repair funding and preservation support, PRC helps low-income homeowners remain in their homes, protecting both the buildings and the people who give neighborhoods their life.

PRC protects.
New Orleans’ iconic cemeteries are as much a part of this city’s identity as its architecture and music. With the addition of Save Our Cemeteries in 2025, PRC now stewards that irreplaceable heritage, too. PRC also holds more than 140 preservation easements, most of them in New Orleans, helping ensure the historic buildings that define the Crescent City remain protected for generations. And when historic buildings face unnecessary demolition, PRC advocates for the policies and public action needed to defend them.
