Overview of People Program NOLA:
At People Program, we combat loneliness, one senior at a time! Our "secret" of success is our welcoming atmosphere where friendships are rooted in a variety of social and educational activities.
Each semester, about 425 seniors (aged 55 and over) pay an enrollment fee to register for as many classes as they wish. Our 175+ course offerings include:
• Art/ Painting/ Crafts/ Photography/ Art Appreciation
• Exercise/ Yoga/ Dance/ Meditation/ Tai Chi/ Jin Shin Jyutsu
• Genealogy/ Languages/ History/ Humanities/ Current Events/ Finances
• Guitar/ Piano/ Violin
• Literature/ Poetry/ Religion/ Horticulture/ Wine
• Science/ Computers/ Medical Health
• Sewing/ Quilting/ Crochet
• Games/ Bridge/ Canasta, Dominoes, Mah Jongg, Chess, Table Tennis
Originally founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph in New Orleans in 1974 as a nondenominational agency, People Program proudly lists among its members a variety of ethnic, racial, and religious groups.
