New Orleans Children Youth and Planning Board

A nonprofit organization

CYPB's mission is twofold: 1. To encourage collaborative efforts among local stakeholders for assessing the physical, social, emotional, developmental, behavioral, educational, safety, and poverty impacts and needs of children, youth, and families in their communities 2. Assisting in the development of comprehensive plans to address the needs of children, youth, and families in their communities

The New Orleans Children & Youth Planning Board (CYPB) is dedicated to transforming the lives of children and youth by fostering Positive Youth Development through comprehensive, coordinated efforts. We propel the 10-year New Orleans Youth Master Plan, a roadmap toward a thriving, equitable city for youth, from birth to 24, their families, and the communities they are part of. Key components of our work include the Youth Advisory Board, which empowers young voices to lead change, and emerging initiatives like the Youth Data Hub that centralizes and analyzes data to enhance decision-making and equity.

Our Revolutionary Researchers program prepares young people to conduct research, empowering them to address issues they're passionate about through community-engaged, culturally resonant methods. This initiative dismantles traditional research paradigms by centering lived experiences and promoting creative solutions.

The Youth Connections podcast offers civics education and support to equip youth with the knowledge needed for impactful advocacy. By fostering dialogue between adults and youth, we aim to change narratives and build mutual respect, transparency, and growth.

Testimonials

"We're working as a team-the youth and the adults-in a collaborative effort. And it needs to be like that when we are dismantling adultism. We have to set the foundation for the generation [following] us to go above and beyond, and not have anything in their way because we are breaking down barriers and getting over the systemic hurdles of adultism." -CYPB Youth Leader

"The Youth Master Plan is centered around collaboration...collaboration with adults, youth leaders, young people who aren't comfortable being leaders..." -CYPB Youth Leader

"[Revolutionary Researchers] has changed the way I look at the world around me, it gave me a purpose to help out on whatever I can..." -CYPB Youth Leader

Mission

Our Mission

The New Orleans Children & Youth Planning Board (CYPB) brings together cross-sector leaders, a dynamic Youth Advisory Board, and dedicated staff to build a city where every young person can thrive. We are the backbone organization of the 10 year New Orleans Youth Master Plan—a community driven roadmap created with and for our nearly 120,000 young people.

Together, we:

• Assess the physical, social, emotional, and educational needs of children, youth, and families across Orleans Parish

• Develop comprehensive plans that encourage positive youth development, divert youth from criminal justice and foster care systems, and reduce commitments to state institutions

• Coordinate prevention, early intervention, and treatment services to ensure every young person has the support they need to succeed

Grounded in youth voice and authentic partnership, CYPB works alongside the Mayor's Office of Youth and Families and the New Orleans Youth Alliance to turn our shared vision into reality: a true community where everyone succeeds.
