Louisiana Books 2 Prisoners

A nonprofit organization

Louisiana Books 2 Prisoners is a 100% volunteer-run 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to encouraging literacy and supporting incarcerated people by providing access to books and print resources, with a focus on the Deep South. Our goals are to make prison life more endurable and facilitate a connection between people locked up on the inside and free people on the outside. We affirm the right to read and access information without judging people or their requests.

Louisiana Books 2 Prisoners (LAB2P) is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in New Orleans, Louisiana. LAB2P addresses educational needs of incarcerated people in state and federal detention facilities in Louisiana, Arkansas, and Alabama by providing them with free reading materials. A team of volunteers read request letters from incarcerated readers and select books based on their interests from an extensive library of donated and purchased books. Books are packaged and then mailed to readers in facilities across the region. These books provide recipients with entertainment, information, and a connection to the outside world. Books received through LAB2P positively impact the lives of thousands of incarcerated people, as well as their loved ones and communities.

Testimonials

Hello! Just want to say thank you for the books. Y'all are the bomb! What you are doing is a God send. Places like this can house our bodies, but not our minds. Have learned lots of cool stuff because of you at Louisiana Books to Prisoners. Want to say once again. Thank you!
