Grounds Krewe
About this Organization
Making New Orleans events, like Mardi Gras, more sustainable through waste prevention, recycling, and eco-conscious products. Grounds Krewe reduces the negative impacts of events on our community & planet's resources, without diminishing the fun and joy, so NOLA can keep the party going in a manner that can be sustained for generations to come.
Ever caught a parade throw that was "Made in Louisiana" with a QR code on it or recycled an aluminum can at a tent or receptacle during Mardi Gras? THAT WAS US! : )
Impact:
- 620,000 affordable, functional, eco-friendly throws sold to date
- 11 Krewe customers
- 35 local, small business product vendors
- 12,000 volunteers engaged in throw assembly
- 113,000 pounds of parade waste diverted
- 6,800 paid hours for recycling staff
All Give Nola Day donations will go specifically towards our community-powered sustainable Mardi Gras initiatives. This includes:
- Providing overhead support for our Sustainable Throw Catalog to help keep throw costs + street waste low.
- Acquiring a new 100 person space for environmental education and volunteer throw assembly.
- Increasing coverage and operating times for 'Recycle Dat!' parade recycling.
