$10,000 Goal

The mission of the Good Samaritan Ministry (Good Sams) is to provide immediate financial assistance to those experiencing dire circumstances while connecting them to case management agencies that can provide long-term solutions. 2024 offers real challenges as inflation affects the working poor's ability to meet basic needs such as housing, utilities and food. We offer solutions for all basic needs.

Founded in 1993 as an outreach ministry of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, (Good Sams) we are a non-profit, non-denominational charity that serves the poor and those coping with emergencies in the Louisiana towns of Slidell, Alton, and Pearl River (estimated population approximately 90,000.

We recognize that we will never solve the problem of poverty or eliminate the chance of crisis affecting our citizens. We know that a good emergency aid organization must have its finger on the pulse of changing community needs. It must champion the relief programs required by the community. We believe that our ministry is filling that role.

Good Sams started 32 years ago with an emergency food pantry and an impactful emergency financial aid effort. We are now 135 volunteers strong and open five days a week, providing aid through 13 different programs. Our newest effort is helping homebound seniors and disabled with tasks they need help with. Our volunteers visit them to help with food delivery to helping move boxes and everything in between. Every donated dollar goes to direct client aid.

Testimonials

From Sharon "Took an enormous amount of stress off of me. We might be able to get thru the month and be able to provide everything my 3 year old autistic child needs. Thank y'all and thank Jesus."
From Irwin " We will be able to remain in our house and my two boys will be able to resume their normal routine. I am only in this situation because I recently obtained custody of the child that I have have raised since he was 6 years old in 2011 - he is now 15 years old and we have recently been able to have both of his parents sign their rights over to me. It was $2,000 for attorney fees, But I have insured the safety of an innocent child his future from any more damage from his mother !!!
