Friends of Bayou St. John is a A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that promotes the preservation of a healthy, sustainable Bayou St John for all, through ecological, cultural and community-based programming.

Bayou St. John connects many communities in New Orleans, from Mid City to Lake Ponchartrain, and it traces a path through the city's rich history.  Our organization started connected people to this unique natural and cultural resource through Bayou Boogaloo, the signature event of this historic state waterway. It has grown into a vibrant annual celebration that unites and promotes the bayou through community engagement, local initiatives, and economic impact.

We support the Bayou and our community year round through litter and invasive species cleanups, environmental education events and community celebrations! But, our goal is to increase awareness and investment in one of New Orleans' most precious assets.  Friends of Bayou St. John wants to show you what’s possible for the future of the bayou. A future that takes into consideration the rich history and cultural significance of such a historic waterway, while also providing the essentials for a modern, urban, public space.
