Feed the Second Line is committed to building a resilient and sustainable future by strengthening the safety net, preserving culture through paid opportunities, and creating supportive pathways for all generations of culture bearers—uplifting the ones who make our city special.

We envision a New Orleans where culture bearers are supported, valued, and equipped to thrive — with access to resources, paid opportunities, and supportive pathways that honor their role in shaping the city.

We see a future where resilience is built at the neighborhood level — where trusted spaces stay open during a crisis, where the lights stay on, and where communities have the tools to take care of each other before, during, and after storms.

We are building a stronger, more sustainable New Orleans — rooted in care, powered by culture, and led by the people who make this city what it is.

Programs

Hire the Second Line — A job creation initiative that provides paid opportunities for the culture bearers who keep New Orleans traditions alive, including Masking Indians, Baby Dolls, musicians, drummers, and Social Aid & Pleasure Club members.

Get Lit Stay Lit — A climate resilience program that turns local restaurants into solar-powered Community Resilience Sites with battery backup, while training culture bearers in solar and battery installation through a partnership with LA Green Corps.

Young Keepers of the Culture — A youth leadership and cultural education program that prepares the next generation of New Orleans culture bearers through hands-on learning, literacy support, and mentorship from Baby Dolls, Masking Indians, drummers, and musicians.

Supportive Pathways — An initiative that connects culture bearers and community members to the resources, relationships, and opportunities they need to grow, heal, and lead.
