As DEUTSCHES HAUS and its members prepare to celebrate our 100th Anniversary, the Centennial of our long time love affair with the City of New Orleans, we remain committed to carrying on the traditions that began on Galvez Street in 1928, and have continued to blossom at our new home on Bayou St. John at 1700 Moss Street.
In the spirit of Willkommen and Gemütlichkeit, the HAUS offers German language classes and movies (Kino), cultural evenings (Kulturabends), and the popular "Coming to America" lecture series. We host frequent concerts by our Haus band, Bier Musikanten, and by other gifted musicians, both local and international. We are the home to the Ladies Auxiliary, and to Schlaraffia (an international German speaking fraternity), and to the Men's and Women's Singing Choirs. Our International/ Regional Dinners are immensely popular.
Traditional festivals of Oktoberfest, Volksfest and Christkindlmarkt feature authentic German music, food and beverages for all to enjoy, and activities for children as we strive to remain a family-friendly venue. Other events include Haus Socials, wine tastings, Trivia nights. The DEUTSCHES HAUS's event schedule has never been more active!
The HAUS is proud to support the University of New Orleans, through its International Studies Program and its Center Austria Study Abroad Program, the City's "Feed the First" program for First Responders, and it hosts a number of local community groups, such as the Faubourg St. John Neighborhood Assn., the City Park Neighborhood Assn., 610 Stompers, American Legion Post 307, the Crescent City Home Brewers, the New Orleans Fire Chiefs Assn., the Fraternal Order of Police, and many more.
