Court Watch NOLA

About this Organization

Court Watch NOLA educates and trains hundreds of local volunteers each year to monitor prosecutors, police, judges, public defenders, the sheriff, private defense attorneys, and the clerk of court. The daily and visible presence of court watchers' bright yellow clipboards and brightly colored identification cards loudly broadcasts to criminal justice actors that they are being watched and that New Orleanians demand that their courts are transparent, accountable, and just.

Our model has brought much-needed change and continuing reform to New Orleans' Criminal Courts. Unfortunately, there is still much work to be done. Supporting Court Watch NOLA this Give NOLA Day helps our team continue the fight for a more just Louisiana - one where all New Orleanians receive equal justice.

Our amazing volunteers court watchers have allowed us to fight the jailing of crime survivors in order to force them to testify in their own cases, funding interpreters for increased language justice, develop tools to help keep domestic violence survivors safe, and push for the court to rescind its discriminatory and ableist policy banning the public from entering court with cell phones.
