City Year New Orleans

A nonprofit organization

City Year is an education nonprofit program that places young adults (ages 17–25) as full-time tutors, mentors, and role models in high-need public schools. City Year New Orleans was founded in 2006 in response to the overwhelming service need after Hurricane Katrina, and has been continuously operating in the city for 20 years.

City Year's "Student Success Coaches" work on teams in one of City Year's partner public schools to improve student attendance, behavior, and course performance to boost graduation rates. They serve 10 hours a day for a full school year, receiving a stipend, professional development, and an education award.

Mission

City Year’s mission is to build democracy through citizen service, civic leadership, and social entrepreneurship. By leveraging the talent of young adults as tutors and mentors, they create supportive learning environments, helping students thrive, stay on track, and graduate, while fostering the next generation of leaders.
