Friends of Franklin Foundation

A nonprofit organization

The mission of Benjamin Franklin High School is to prepare students of high academic achievement to be successful in life. For over sixty five years Franklin has achieved and amplified this mission. Over 8,500 Benjamin Franklin alumni have graduated, finding their passion, purpose, and inspiration.

Benjamin Franklin High School, New Orleans' most outstanding public charter school, has been preparing students for success through academic achievement since it was founded in 1957. We are consistently ranked as a "top public high school in the nation" by "U.S. News & World Report" and have been named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence five times. We produce multiple Presidential and National Merit Scholars each year, with 99.9% of students attending four-year colleges, and we serve students from every ZIP code in the city. It's a point of pride for us that we don't have an admissions lottery or cap on our enrollment; any student in Orleans Parish who meets our academic standards is invited to enroll. Our faculty includes two Louisiana Teachers of the Year, as well as a Milken Educator Award winner (known as the "Oscars of Teaching") and a 2025 "National Geographic" Grosvenor Teacher Fellow.

Testimonials

"There's something special about Franklin. Yes, we lead with academic rigor and intellectual curiosity, but what truly sets us apart is the spirit of the place - a shared understanding and acceptance that brings our community together. There's real joy in the learning we do each day and a powerful sense of belonging. That, to me, is Franklin's superpower."-Jana Kreutziger, 2024 Teacher of the Year

"Franklin has been the perfect community for me. From friends I made in the first week to people I've only gotten to know better senior year, I feel lucky to be a part of this place where there's a culture of making connections with folks just as driven, fun, and engaged as you."-Julien Weiner '25
