Toups Family Meal sprang into action full time in 2024 when the state initially denied the summer bucks for our kids on snap benefits. When the kids our out of school they miss free breakfast and lunches during the summer. After public outcry the state did accept the funds. To our dismay, they were only offering $1 per meal that will be missed over those months. We found through our data collection that not only were one in three of our local kids food insecure but that the vast majority of families were also transportation insecure. So, we took a unique approach to this problem and delivered 70,500 meals to our kids over the summer from our pantry to their porch! We continue our work delivering holiday meals and grocery boxes, pumpkin carving parties, Valentine's Day kits all for our kids in need! Our goal is to expand drastically and deliver 250,000 meals this summer and 1,000,000 meals this year! The need is so great that our wish is to never have to turn anyone away. Our mission is clear and focused on the food insecure families of New Orleans. We are the best food city in America and therefore our children deserve to be nourished, cared for and provided excellent food!
