The Nature Conservancy

About this Organization

Louisiana is a place where nature and people are deeply entwined. For nearly 40 years, The Nature Conservancy has been working in the state to protect nature through sustainable land and water conservation. By creating lasting partnerships at local, state and federal levels, we drive change through science-based habitat restoration and protection, environmental education, community engagement in conservation efforts, and collaboration with stakeholders to develop innovative conservation strategies.

The Nature Conservancy's Louisiana activities include:

• Protecting more than 350,000 acres for habitat conservation in Louisiana (through easements, land purchases, and education of best land practices for landowners).
• Managing 21 nature preserves statewide, including the Abita Creek Flatwoods Preserve near Abita Springs.
• Constructing 10 miles of oyster reefs along the coast to slow erosion, provide habitat for fish and shellfish, and protect the shoreline from storms.
• Continuing our restoration and environmental education programs on Grand Isle.

Our work would not be possible without YOU!
