Step Up Louisiana

Step Up Louisiana is a membership-led grassroots organization committed to building power to win education and climate justice for all. We work with multiracial and inter-generational Louisianans to "Step Up" by campaigning, organizing from a racial justice perspective, and holding public officials accountable. We organize with parents, students, and community members to disrupt systemic oppression in our schools and our environment through voter education, climate education, advocacy, and action.

Step Up Louisiana is building power with multiracial inter-generational Louisianans for Our Schools, Our Climate, and Our Future! In the past few years, our members have organized parents who are fighting against public ed cuts, school closures, and school buses with no AC. Last year we were able to block an effort to close The Leah Chase school.  We worked with parents, teachers, school board members, community leaders, and the Chase family to raise awareness about the importance of keeping The Leach Chase school open, the progress the school is destined to make, and the unrelenting commitment from parents to keep the school open. In January of this year, we secured the win of keeping The Leah Chase school open for two more years by a vote of the Orleans Parish School Board.  Our goal now is to work toward ensuring the sustainability and ever presence of The Leah Chase school to remain open in our community for years to come.  Our pathway to achieve this is through viable partnerships and stakeholders who want to see schools like The Leah Chase school to remain open serving our families. 

Our work touches on multiple issues impacting our everyday lives. We have been advocating for community schools to fighting to stop carbon capture to securing real wins for families at the ballot box and in the streets. Step Up is creating change from the ground up. Every dollar you give supports grassroots leadership, organizing, and transformative campaigns led by directly impacted people.
