Trust in Action

Food is a human right, not a privilege to be proven. Port Street Pantry is a direct-action mutual aid project and the only food resource in our area operating on a model of radical trust. We require zero documentation, IDs, or proof of income - ensuring that our guests, many of whom are currently unhoused, can access what they need without the indignity of red tape.

Intentional Independence

Our no-barrier approach is an intentional choice to prioritize people over bureaucracy. We bypass government funding because it requires data collection and ID verification, barriers that exclude our most vulnerable neighbors. By refusing to compromise on our guests' privacy and dignity, we rely entirely on community solidarity rather than tax dollars.

From Transactional to Relational

What began as a COVID-era "Blessing Box" has evolved into an in-person community hub. We moved beyond a transactional model to foster real relationships. But opening our doors two days a week for grocery distribution and community meals, we shifted from "dropping off food" to showing up for each other as neighbors.

The Move Toward Sustainability

For years, this has been a quiet labor of love funded by church members and friends. But as the cost of living in New Orleans rises, so does the demand.

  • $350/week stocks our grocery shelves for 100 individuals.

  • $150/week prepares our hot community meals.

We are stepping into the public eye for GiveNOLA Day to ensure this low-barrier resource remains sustainable. Your gift is what keeps our independence possible. Join us in nourishing our community!

Mission

Port Street Pantry provides low-barrier food access through radical trust. As a community-funded mutual aid project, we bypass bureaucratic requirements to give groceries and meals directly to our neighbors - no questions asked.
