Southern Organizer Academy

About this Organization

Southern Organizer Academy is a New Orleans kinship based social justice organizing training program and capacity building pipeline for the Southern region. Throughout SOA's 12 week training, participants engage with conversation including but not limited to: ancestral healing practices, community development initiatives, Black Queer Feminist theory, and organizing basics. We have graduated four organizing and healing justice cohorts. Of those cohorts, many of our alumni have built solid relationships , taken on leadership roles, or have collaborated with local and national organizations that align with their vision for improved conditions of their communities.

SOA positions itself as a weaver of cultural/communal organizing and healing justice in the South, and especially in Louisiana, through our strategic coalitions and partnership networks at the local, regional, and national level.
