About this Organization
What can you do with a vacant lot?
Founded in 2012 in response to a citywide call to creatively re-purpose empty spaces, PlayBuild's goal is to transform neighborhoods, transform lives, and build a more child-friendly New Orleans. While our main space is being redeveloped, we are open by appointment and for pop-up play dates at events and festivals around the City.
Programming & Placemaking
Our outdoor classroom at 2828 Thalia Street has been our anchor in Central City for over a decade. From our signature Big Blue Imagination Playground blocks to an arsenal of construction, and engineering toys and creative play materials, PlayBuild gives kids the tools to ignite and inspire creativity. We're proud to have hosted hundreds of visitors for after-school and family programs, and to have engaged over 6,000 young people citywide through school partnerships, outreach programs and community partnerships.
In 2024 we launched our satellite location on Claiborne Corridor in collaboration with the Claiborne Cultural Innovation District. On weekends when the CID market is open, you can find our play station opposite Lemann Playground.
