$5,000 Goal

Phoenix Communities of NOLA exists to make sure young people in our city have access to safe, consistent spaces where they are supported, challenged, and truly seen. Through in-school partnerships, after-school programming, and summer experiences, we work with middle and high school students to meet their academic, emotional, and personal needs in real time, not just when it’s convenient, but when they need it most.

Our work is rooted in a simple but urgent belief: we must reclaim the youth of this city by investing in them intentionally. Many of the students we serve are carrying layers of unaddressed trauma. Because of that, mental health support is not an add-on, it is embedded into everything we do. Alongside academic support and career exposure, students have access to mental health counseling and learn practical, healthy ways to process what they’re experiencing.

Afterschool Program (Currently Active)
Right now, we are actively serving students through our after-school program, where young people show up each week for support, connection, and growth.

  • Academic tutoring and homework support

  • Daily meals in a safe and structured environment

  • Mentorship from caring adults and near-peer leaders

  • Hands-on learning in culinary and New Orleans cultural arts

  • Opportunities to build confidence and a sense of belonging

This space has become more than just a program. It is where students begin to believe in themselves and see what they are capable of.

Teen Summer Camp (Year 4)
This summer will mark our 4th year hosting our Teen Summer Camp, beginning June 1. We will serve 150 students ages 13–15 at no cost to families.

  • Culinary arts training and hands-on cooking experiences

  • Cultural arts exploration rooted in New Orleans traditions

  • Mental health support and wellness activities

  • Team-building, leadership, and personal development

  • A safe, engaging environment during the summer months

Our summer camp continues to be a space where students learn new skills, build relationships, and grow in confidence while being fully supported.

Testimonials

“The mental health sessions at camp taught me that it’s okay to talk about my feelings. Before, I used to just keep everything in. Now I use breathing exercises when I feel overwhelmed, and I actually feel like I can handle things better.” – Jaylen

“I learned how to cook real dishes like gumbo and plate food like a chef. Now I help my grandma in the kitchen, and she tells everybody about it. It made me feel proud of myself.” – Alana

“I never knew how much work went into Mardi Gras Indian suits until we did beadwork. It made me respect the culture on a whole different level. Now when I see the suits, I see the time, the history, and the pride behind them.” – Malik

“Before this program, I didn’t really talk much or ask for help. Now I feel more comfortable speaking up, and my grades have gone up because of it.” – Student Participant

“Phoenix gave my child a place to go where they feel safe and supported. I’ve seen a difference not just in their grades, but in their confidence and overall attitude.” – Parent
