Open to all strings students pre-twinkle and above, weekly group classes work to improve musicianship, ensemble skills and technical ability. When children participate in regular group lessons and performances they learn from and are motivated by each other. Constant repetition is essential in learning to play an instrument. Children do not learn a word or piece of music and then discard it. They add it to their vocabulary or repertoire, gradually using it in new and more sophisticated ways. The early years are crucial for developing mental processes and muscle coordination. Listening to music should begin at birth; formal training may begin at age three or four, but it is never too late to begin.
The New Orleans Suzuki Forum Board has as its mission: "For the sake of our children, let us educate them from the cradle to have a noble mind, a high sense of values and splendid ability." (Dr. Shinichi Suzuki)
The New Orleans Suzuki Forum promotes music education for school-age children based on Shinichi Suzuki's philosophy, focusing on a nurturing, language-learning approach to music. Our goals are to begin as early as possible with the finest caliber classical music in our families' homes. Parents play an essential role in creating a healthy learning environment and encouraging their children in the discipline of musical education.
