Make It Count Math strives to bring joy back to mathematics and provide youth and caregivers with clear tools and positive experiences to engage in math learning.
Our programs include school partnerships, community organization partnerships, family partnerships, and Math Workouts. We partner with New Orleans charter schools, supporting 3rd-4th graders in small groups. Students are eager to participate and demonstrate enjoyment while learning. MICM connects with community organizations that aim to enhance their programming with joyful and productive math practice for their participants. We also work with families to provide individual math coaching sessions for students in grades 1-8. They include practice with foundational math skills and a chance to work on current math assignments with a math coach. We establish a relationships of trust, choice, and decision-making. Math Workouts bring diverse students together to practice the skills they need to be prepared for learning in the classroom. Sessions utilize discussion, feedback, and games. So far, Make It Count Math has worked with 27 schools to implement free and low-cost math sessions for individual and small groups.
