Louisiana Landmarks Society/Pitot House Museum

About this Organization

Louisiana Landmarks Society is the premiere citywide advocacy organization for historic preservation in New Orleans. A dedicated staff and hands-on board are actively involved at the city and state levels advocating for the principles of preservation and responsible urban planning, to promote the value of reuse for our historic buildings and to preserve the character of our neighborhoods and unique culture. Louisiana Landmarks Society's programs include the annual New Orleans' 9 Most Endangered Sites, which draws attention to historic sites that may be threatened by demolition, neglect, or bureaucracy. Our annual Awards for Excellence in Historic Preservation celebrate outstanding restoration and renovation projects by the city's leading architects, contractors, engineers, designers, property owners and related professionals. Louisiana Landmarks Society operates the historic house museum, Pitot House, located on Bayou St. John. Louisiana Landmarks Society engages the community in preservation matters through public lectures, educational programs for schoolchildren, and programs and events throughout the year.
