LOUD Queer Youth Theater
About this Organization
Through theater, LOUD provides the opportunity to create new narratives in art/performance, social space, professional development, that are inclusive to trans and queer Black youth in New Orleans. Black youth in New Orleans face a myriad of social issues (incarceration, inadequate mental health services, housing insecurity, school push-out, loss of cultural connectivity due to gentrification, career options, etc). With supportive resources for youth difficult to access, LOUD's traditional program supports participants (ages 16-24) navigation of these systems and provides stipends, transportation and meals to keep basic needs from hindering participation.
LOUD's mission is to intentionally break the pattern of programs that abandon youth after they turn 18. LOUD has structured our organization where young people are trained to run the program with community/adult support, and fully expected to become adult staff with the knowledge, networks and skills necessary to sustain themselves and their communities.
We invite community artists, cultural workers and organizers to come in and guest facilitate workshops and trainings as part of our youth development model.
