Koats for Kids

About this Organization

For 15 years, Koats for Kids (formerly Dr. Ko's Coats for Kids) has been a beacon of unity in the New Orleans community. By collecting over 3,800 coats for underserved children, we don't just offer warmth; we foster community and compassion. Our initiatives, led by esteemed New Orleans cultural bearers, include songwriting programs for system-impacted youth. These programs aim to promote restorative character development and facilitate the successful transition of these youth into society.

Our mission, now as a non-profit organization, extends beyond the immediate provision of coats. We are committed to enhancing our community's equity, diversity, beauty, and safety through dedication and artistry. Inspired by our late co-host, Mr. Ellis Marsalis, we believe in the power of music and culture to bring about positive change. Through our efforts, we strive to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.
