Hollygrove Neighbors Association Inc., (HNA), is a civic organization formally established in 2005. HNA works to engage its diverse community of residents on quality of life issues by way of collaboration and coalition building. Home to Conrad Park (a NORD playground), the Hollygrove Community Garden, community fridges, The Carrollton-Hollygrove Multipurpose Center and a host of community-focused schools, churches and businesses, Hollygrove is committed to sustainability and advancing the quality of life for Hollygrove residents.
Hollygrove is centrally located and highly walkable, with many residents, especially youth, relying on nearby public spaces like Conrad Park for recreation, gathering, and daily connection. The neighborhood is a historically Black, multigenerational, working-class community with deep cultural roots and a strong tradition of neighborhood engagement and collective care.
Conrad Park, located at 3400 Hamilton Street, is one of the few free, open-access, community-centered recreational spaces in the neighborhood. It includes a basketball court, open field, and Fieldhouse that historically served as a hub for youth programming and family events, as well as the nearest public restroom facility for residents. However, since sustaining significant damage during Hurricane Ida in 2021, the Fieldhouse has remained closed and the park is effectively considered “inoperable,” limiting access to basic amenities, organized activities, and indoor gathering space. Youth sports teams that once used the park have been forced to relocate elsewhere.
Conrad Park is a well-loved neighborhood gathering space. The Fieldhouse has remained inoperable since Hurricane Ida and the park is effectively classified as inoperable. This significantly limits safe use and access to essential facilities. Local youth shared during a recent community planning session that they want a clean and safe place to play and be with their friends. Free, safe, and accessible public spaces are not optional; they are essential infrastructure.
Hollygrove Neighbors recently created the Caring for Conrad Park Campaign to answer this call directly. HNA is raising funds to restore its beloved Conrad Park Fieldhouse. The proposed project aims to renovate the fieldhouse and level the open playing field so that it's suitable for sports including football, soccer, cheer and baseball.
Hollygrove deserves a park we can be proud of. Conrad Park is where our kids play, where families gather, and where community happens. This GiveNOLA Day, we’re calling on YOU to help us restore and uplift this vital space.
