fstop504

A nonprofit organization

fstop504 is a New Orleans nonprofit organization serving photographers, models, and artists of all skill levels. We host photography events, exhibitions, and workshops.

What do we do?

Host programming at our community studio, Lapin's Workshop. We have regular programming every week, like figure drawing studio, community filmmaking, and open studio. Our members, other community groups, and visiting artists also host workshops and events. We have done applique, linocut printing, drawing classes, and more. We welcome proposals for workshops and help source the materials for you!

Plan collaborative community photoshoots at different venues across New Orleans. We have hosted events at Hotel Peter & Paul, Ferrara Showman Gallery, Two Studios, Fourth Wall, the Contemporary Arts Center, Women's Guild Home, and more! We often partner with small businesses and find ways to involve them in our photoshoots. We have worked with various vintage stores and dressed models in vintage and second hand clothes. All of the venues and businesses we have collaborated with get photos from our events that they can use on their socials and website. Our events bring in over a hundred people on average, and people get to build their portfolios and meet new people they can work with down the line.

Curate a juried annual exhibition for emerging and established artists in New Orleans. We work with industry professionals in the city to help jury the show. Last year's exhibition was curated by Matthew Weldon Showman, Partner + Director of Ferrara Showman Gallery, and Richard McCabe, Curator of Photography at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. This exhibition is geared towards our active community of photographers, and it is required to have attended at least one fstop504 event to apply for the exhibition. The photos do not necessarily need to be from our events, but photographers often draw on what they have learned at our events.

Host seasonal clothing swaps to promote sustainability in fashion. While the majority of our photoshoots are free, we wanted to think about the other barriers to entry when it comes to modeling. We started hosting clothing swaps so people could curate their wardrobe sustainably and cheaply. All of the leftover clothes get donated to local mutual aid organizations and charities.

Mission

fstop504 is a New Orleans nonprofit dedicated to creating real professional pathways for photographers, artists, and models. We remove the financial and access barriers that keep talented creatives from breaking into the field, connecting them with the spaces, people, resources, and opportunities they need to build careers.

We do this by opening the doors to the city's most beautiful and historic venues, hosting themed photo events, exhibitions, and workshops in spaces many people would never otherwise explore. In return, host venues walk away with professional organic content they can actually use while gaining visibility and community connection. These events support small businesses, cultural institutions, and nonprofits across New Orleans.
