Alliance Française de La Nouvelle-Orléans

A nonprofit organization

In 2025, the Alliance Française (AFNO) is celebrating more than 40 years of vibrant French language, history, and culture in the Greater New Orleans area. Over four decades, AFNO has offered French education and supported both local and international francophone cultures. Our uptown cultural center boasts a large French language library, a gallery, and event space. Through these physical spaces, we are able to promote language, culture, and diversity. However, we still have a lot of room for growth !

In 2025, AFNO is expanding its cultural programs and French educational courses to Greater Baton Rouge, sharing resources with vibrant francophone communities across South Louisiana. In 2024, AFNO celebrated 40 years of French education for all ages. Plus, introduced a Louisiana Creole course, and opened new off-site locations, including Baton Rouge, St. Tammany Parish Library, and the French Quarter.

To better serve our community, AFNO is fundraising to enhance community engagement and cultural activities. In 2024, we hosted over 100 events showcasing local and international francophone cultures, most free to attend. These events provide a platform for cultural bearers, artists, and activists while preserving Louisiana's heritage languages and traditions. In 2025, we are also raising funds to preserve and renovate our historic home in the Garden District with the "Yellow House Campaign."

AFNO offers:
French courses for adults, children, and businesses.
Language certifications: DELF/DALF (adults/teens) and DAEFLE (teachers).
Cultural activities exploring francophone life today.
A physical and digital library for learners and native speakers.

Testimonials

"I've been a member and student at the Alliance Française since January 2023, and I cannot say enough great things about this organization! I've taken eight in-person courses with four different instructors, all of whom have been fantastic, native speakers who really know how to teach. The classes are immersive and structured, never stuffy or boring. We learn vocabulary and grammar, yes, but also their cultural and social contexts. The way the language is taught is preparing me for both professional and real-life environments; it's not just textbook French. The students are diverse, from all walks of life, all ages, all professions, and dedicated." - Mary
